Should be character names in "The Vagina Monologues."

On quizzes and worksheets that don't involve multiple choice or matching, I require my students to write their answers in complete sentences. This is more difficult than you would think, apparently, since I've been doing this ALL YEAR and I still get answers like:

His cat.

That she didn't really want to go.

Dec.7, 1941.

Ghettos.
I don't know if this is in the interest of brevity, or if they really don't know how to compose a complete sentence. In any case, I know they try their hardest to not write more than ABSOLUTELY necessary (and sometimes less than that). Because, you know, their HANDS. They HURT, Miss! Gah.

Anyway, as I was saying...they try not to write more than absolutely necessary. Sometimes, this can lead to interesting abbreviations. The latest of these has to do with the second family to move into the Secret Annex with the Franks: the Van Daans. (You can see where this is going, right?)

I seriously can't count how many papers I've received with the abbreviation "Mr. VD" or "Mrs. VD" on them.
