Oh, sweet Moses, we teachers are fond of initials, aren't we? I can't think of anything we don't slap initials on. IEP, AHS, ADD, LD, PLC...it's like alphabet soup around here. And let me tell you, it's too damn hot in Texas for anybody to be serving up soup.
The most interesting pairing of initials in the education world (I think) is "ED." It's a fairly ubiquitous pair. ED could mean Education. It can stand for Economically Disadvantaged. Or Emotionally Disturbed. And now, thanks to the pharmaceutical companies and their annoying advertisements, ED also stands for Erectile Dysfunction.
I can't see "ED" marked on a form without thinking, "Should that kind of information be publicized? And is 8th grade really the time to be considering Viagra?"
